Analytics and software services.

We offer two services to companies across Southern Africa: analysis of what a company’s data means, and the software that analysis depends on. Most consultants offer one or the other. We do both, in the same engagement, so nothing is lost between a recommendation and the system that has to carry it out.

We find out what your numbers actually mean.

We look at a company’s data, whatever the source, and work out which few numbers actually matter for the decision at hand. The result is a clear read: what changed, why, and what to do next. Where something is uncertain, we say so, with a range instead of a single number that looks more precise than it is.

That includes analytics warehouses in dbt, on PostgreSQL, BigQuery, Databricks, or Snowflake. SQL for the numbers a business runs on: procurement, stock, shelf life, and whether reports are arriving on time and complete. Dashboards in Apache Superset that keep working under real, everyday use, not just in a demo. Financial and leadership reporting in Power BI, written for the person who has to decide, not for another analyst.

When doing it by hand stops making sense, we build the tool.

If an analysis has to happen every week or every month, it should not depend on someone doing it by hand each time. We build the software that does it instead, a pipeline, a dashboard, an internal tool, whatever the task needs. The company owns what we build. It is not a product you rent from us or a service you have to keep paying us to run.

That includes internal tools, pipelines, automation, and reporting that the company owns outright. Advice on choosing and shaping a system that has to work across more than one site. And the less glamorous part: making systems that were never built to talk to each other actually talk to each other. We also design and build websites. We are not tied to one stack: we work in whatever a company already runs.

Inside analysis

Finance and operations

Cash and margin that do not agree. A report still rebuilt by hand every period. A team that has outgrown the tool it uses to close the week. These are the situations we are usually called in for. The work is to put the few numbers that actually matter in one place, with a trail back to the source files a decision-maker can follow themselves.

Risk and uncertainty

A forecast that gives a single number is hiding its own uncertainty. We give a range instead, and show the assumptions behind it, so the result can be checked, not just trusted. That is how we treat any number that is going to be used to make a decision, not only forecasts.

If a number you cannot check is the problem, get in touch.

Recurring review packs are one way to deliver a finance or ops read. They are not the whole offer. Sometimes the company needs software instead.

We work with companies in Johannesburg and South Africa, Gaborone and Botswana, Harare and Zimbabwe, and remotely, worldwide. See all consulting areas.

How we scope

Every engagement is scoped to the decision or the system it needs to produce. We quote after a short diagnostic conversation, not from a price list, because the right shape of the work depends on what is actually broken. See the full process.

A few sentences on the situation are enough. We reply from the same address you see here.
