Exception-first KPIs: stop reading the whole dashboard

Claudius Mutevhe, Cipher Labs ·

Dashboards fail when every number is presented as equally important. Teams then either ignore the board or spend the meeting hunting for the one cell that matters.

Exception-first design starts with the decision: what would make us intervene? That becomes a threshold, a comparison, and a comment. In-range metrics stay quiet.

This is analytics in the ordinary sense: definitions, a trail back to the source, and a read people will actually use, not a new BI estate. Existing extracts are usually enough to start. A pack is one shape. Sometimes the company needs software instead.
